Ex-AmaZulu star Mulenga training with Zanaco

Former AmaZulu midfielder Augustine Mulenga is training with his former Zambian club and seven-time league champions Zanaco.

The attacking midfielder is currently clubless since leaving AmaZulu at the end of last season.

Sources familiar with the development said Mulenga has been training with the Lusaka club for over a month now since recovering from an injury he sustained in the latter part of last season at AmaZulu.

“He is still here [in Zambia] and might be registered by them [Zanaco] if nothing works out elsewhere,” the source told FARPost.

Mulenga played for Zanaco prior to moving to the PSL in 2018 when he joined Orlando Pirates following an outstanding performance at CHAN that same year in Morocco.

He was among the senior players released by AmaZulu at the end of the season.

The 32-year-old was a surprise name on the club’s exit list as he was still nursing an injury after establishing himself a key figure in the Durban side’s dressing room.

Mulenga’s influence in the AmaZulu line-up stretched back to Benni McCarthy’s first season at the club when they finished second behind Mamelodi Sundowns.

At the time of his axing, he pleaded with the club’s management to reinstate him, saying he would battle to make ends meet while nursing an injury.

He has since recovered from the Achilles tendon injury and could play his football back home should no offers from South Africa come.

Mulenga had indicated his keenness to stay in the DStv Premiership.

FARPost recently reported that Richards Bay were monitoring him with concerns about his injury. However, the club has not made any significant move toward convincing him.

He played 48 competitive matches for AmaZulu and scored eight goals following his switch from Pirates.
