Sundowns striker Nassir gets support from Ethiopian Ambassador

Ethiopian Ambassador to South Africa, Dr. Muktar Kedir, hosted Mamelodi Sundowns striker Abubeker Nassir on Friday to offer him moral support.

Kedir is reported to have hosted the youthful striker to encourage him following his dream move to the South Africa’s DStv Premiership champions.

In reaction, Nassir said he felt greatly honoured to have been invited for the meeting with the diplomat.

“I would like to thank FDRE’s ambassador in South Africa, his excellency Dr. Muktar Kedir and his colleagues for heartfelt moral support!,” the striker tweeted.

Nassir has noted featured for Sundowns in the last three consecutive games as he is recovering from an injury.

Sundowns’ co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi told the media in South Africa recently that Nassir suffered an ankle injury during the game against Chiefs.

He scored in his second game after coming off the bench to make his debut when Sundowns lost 1-0 to TS Galaxy a few weeks ago.

Nassir received his international transfer certificate earlier this month to complete his long-awaited transfer from Ethiopia Coffee FC.

The talented front-man made a name for himself since joining Coffee in July 2019 with a string of important goals.

The lethal striker netted 36 goals in 47 Premier League appearances in the last two campaigns for Coffee.

He was voted last season’s Most Valuable Player and top scorer in the Ethiopian Premier League.

Nassir played for Ethiopia at Cameroon’s delayed 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals.

The 21-year-old has also started the 2023 AFCON qualifying campaign after scoring in the famous 2-0 win over Egypt at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
