Pitso Mosimane ignites fresh hope for Al Ahly return

Coach Pitso Mosimane seems to have given a strong hint of his possible return to Al Ahly after reacting to such reports by saying: ‘God willing.’

Mosimane made such a response to a tweet by Saudi Arabian journalist Ibra Alfrayan suggesting that the South African will soon be on his way back to Cairo to renew his romance with the former CAF Champions League winners.

“My source in Cairo will soon return to his favourite club in Cairo. If you want championships, welcome Musimani back to the Century Club @TheRealPitso@AlAhly,” he tweeted.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns did not dismiss the tweet but simply acknowledge it, saying: “Inshallah [God willing]. I have high respect for you.”

However, a fan called Hossam Aldeen has reservations about the former Bafana Bafana mentor’s possible return to Al Ahly.

“Yes, he is the best coach who led Al-Ahly club, but this is not the right time to return. But he will return one day to Al-Ahly club, and he will be celebrated,” he said in response to Alfrayan’s tweet.

A few days ago, the three-time CAF Champions League winning coach insisted that he achieved whatever Al Ahly had tasked him to deliver during his 21-month stay and that it was not his space to comment on what was happening at the club now.

Reports of the ex-SuperSport United mentor’s return to Egypt have gathered momentum after Al Ahly’s 1-0 loss to El Gaish on Saturday evening.

A respected Egyptian football website FilGoal has since pushed a story suggesting that Mosimane’s successor Ricardo Soares will leave the club at the end of the season following the latest defeat.

The Portuguese is becoming increasingly unpopular after failing to improve the Reds’ performance since he replaced the South African in June.

He has lost thrice in the league since taking over Al Ahly from Mosimane in June with the other results being five draws and five wins.

Al Ahly will finish outside top-two league positions on the Egyptian Premier League log table for the first time since 1992, as leaders Zamalek and second-placed Pyramids have sealed their places.
