French side in talks with Al Ahly over Percy Tau
French side Le Havre AC are reportedly in talks with the Egyptian giants’ Al Ahly to sign Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau on a one-season loan.
Tau has been the subject of transfer talk in recent weeks following the departure of Pitso Mosimane from the Cairo club.
The latest news coming out of Egypt is that the French side, formerly home to Zimbabwe target man Tino Kadewere, is in advanced talks with Ahly.
According to Egyptian journalist Tarek Talaat, Al Ahly are open to releasing the South African international after just a season with them.
Tau joined Ahly last season after an unsuccessful stint with Brighton in England.
However, recurrent injuries have blighted his career in Egypt.
“Al Ahly did not refuse the idea of letting the player go and now looking at the French offer,” Talaat told FARPost.
Interestingly, Le Havre are under the tutelage of former Royal Union SG head coach Luka Elsner, who knows the Bafana star from his time at the Belgian side.
He is reportedly eager to bring the Witbank-born star on board for the season.
However, the only issue may be whether the Ligue 2 side is willing to pay what Al Ahly will ask for.
According to reports, Al Ahly forked out close to R32 million for Percy Tau and may not want to let go of him cheaply.
