‘We will give them our lives,’ Sundowns’ Mngqithi reacts to MTN8 draw

Manqoba Mngqithi says Mamelodi Sundowns will give their lives in the quest to defend the MTN8 trophy when they face off Orlando Pirates in a two-legged semi-finals tie.

The ex-Golden Arrows mentor went on to reveal that he is happy that the destiny is in their own hands, and expects his troops to put everything on the line to get the job done

Bafana Ba Style cruised their way into the semis after a 2-0 win at home to cross-town rivals SuperSport United this past Saturday.

Mngqithi reckons that the chance to lift what would be their second consecutive MTN8 title triumph would amply demonstrate their battle for supremacy among South Africa’s elite teams and how it has pushed them to their absolute maximum.

However, the 51-year-old co-coach anticipates a tough battle against the Soweto giants, who are currently in a good form and top of the PSL table.

“I think this was never going to be an easy draw for anyone. When you have got four teams that are currently doing very well you could expect anything. We could have had AmaZulu or Kaizer Chiefs and all of them are currently performing well,” he told Sundowns’ media.

“So, we just had to take whoever we get and trust in our process and the team. We think our team is capable of defending our trophy and we will give it our best shot with all the respect that is necessary.

“We [Sundowns] can never take anyone for granted in this competition, more especially this season. Every team is really working very hard to show that they are prepared, so we will give it our all to get fruitful results.”

The first weekend of October has been set for the opening leg of the semi-finals, with the second leg scheduled to take place on the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd of the same month.

Meanwhile, the kick-off times will be confirmed by the PSL in due course.
