Luke Le Roux gets first goal in Sweden

Luke Le Roux got his first goal of the season when his Swedish side trounced Ljungskile 4-0 in the Swedish Cup on Wednesday night.

The former youth national team star took his league form to the Swedish Cup, turning on another fine performance.

The Stellenbosch academy graduate has been an ever-present figure in Varbegs BoIs line-up, having played 17 league games this season. He has only missed three games due to either injury or suspension.

The 22-year-old’s goal on Wednesday came in the 55th minute, killing the game as a contest as it was a fourth of the night.

Luke Le Roux, who is knocking on the Bafana Bafana door, left the DStv Premiership almost three years ago and has established himself as a vital cog in the Allsvenskan side’s dressing room.

In his maiden season overseas, he played 21 league games for Varbergs, who were then a newly promoted side.

Last season, Luke Le Roux played 26 matches and has continued from where he left off, putting in fine performances from the middle of the park.

Hlongwane started for Minnesota

Meanwhile, there was no joy for Bafana winger Bongokuhle Hlongwane in the United States.

His MLS side Minnesota United had a disappointing trip to Real Salt Lake, losing 3-0.

The heavily rotated squad struggled to contain the marauding Real Salt, who went to the break leading 2-0. The 22-year-old Hlongwane started but was unable to help Minnesota.

Despite the loss, Minnesota United remains in third place in the Western Conference on 44 points. As they round out a busy week, they hope to get their mojo back at Allianz Field this weekend when they take on FC Dallas.
