ABC Motsepe League side changes name
Northern Cape ABC Motsepe League outfit Kimberley Real Madrid has changed its name ahead of the 2022/23 season.
The club chairman Mr Winston Moyahi has confirmed that the club will no longer use the name Kimberley Real Madrid for the upcoming campaign, as they will now be known as Diamond City Football Club.
The chairman reckons that name identifies with the city where the club originates [Kimberley], also known as the ‘Diamond City’.
The side further stated that the previous name created challenges when the team participated in the South African football third-tier national playoffs because there is already a team in Spain with the same name.
The reigning Northern Cape champions insist at they are “still committed to playing exciting football in a quest to gain promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship League”.
Diamond City announced they would play all their home games at the South Africa Defence Force Sports Fields [Diskobolos].
The side will be expected to achieve its ultimate goal of qualifying for the ABC League national playoffs once more again and possibly getting promoted to the Motsepe Foundation Championship next season.
