Why Dylan Kerr has made peace with Marumo Gallants

Despite the shocking departure after winning the Nedbank Cup and saving them from relegation, former Marumo Gallants head coach Dylan Kerr says all is well with the club’s hierarchy.

Kerr was surprisingly let go by the club at the end of the 2020/21 season, soon after helping the club survive the chop. The Maltese born was also embroiled in a dispute over the Nedbank Cup winning bonus and took the club to the PSL DRC.

Now in charge of Swallows, Kerr insists there won’t be any score to settle when his club travels to Polokwane this Sunday. Gallants will host Swallows at Peter Mokaba Stadium at 15:00.

“There is no score to settle. The Chairman and the board who governs thought they needed to go in a different direction,” Kerr told FARPost.

“After doing the impossible of saving their status in the League with all the troubles that I inherited and winning the Nedbank Cup, which nobody expected me to do, you would have thought that the powers that be would appreciate that and give you a contract that was hot greedy but honest and obviously they didn’t see it that way, so there is no score to settle.

“I speak to the Chairman probably once every three weeks, and we are on good terms,” he said.

The 55-year-old has told this publication that he is still waiting for his work permit and might not be on the bench for the sixth match.

“Why is it that it always happens to me? I am like you. I am waiting to see before we leave tomorrow (Saturday). When players come to clubs, they seem to get visas quicker than we do, so it’s not nice being where I am, but we are going to do it the proper way.”
