Why Maritzburg tie is a special fixture for Nkosinathi Sibisi

Orlando Pirates defender Nkosinathi Sibisi has revealed why Sunday’s tie against Maritzburg United is a special fixture for him.

Sibisi recently joined Orlando Pirates and is settling in well at the Soweto giants.

On Sunday, they visit Maritzburg in a DStv Premiership clash, and Sibisi says that it is a special fixture for him, as he comes from uMgungundlovu.

The district is home to Pirates’ opponents on Sunday.

“That game is a personal fixture for me because I’m playing against my hometown team.

“I know my family and friends will be there supporting me. Unfortunately for Maritzburg United, I need those results,” Sibisi told the media.

In the league, Pirates are yet to win back-to-back games.

Orlando Pirates faces Maritzburg

In their last three fixtures, they won against Marumo Gallants, drew against SuperSport United and won against Royal AM.

The most notable and worrying factor, they (Pirates) are not scoring enough goals, only notching four goals in six league matches. Two goals came at home and two away, something that worries coach Jose Riveiro.

While Maritzburg United comes from a defeat against Royal AM, they picked wins against Chippa United and draw against Cape Town City.

They have conceded six goals and scored three goals, playing two goalless draws.

Maduka will be hoping his boys will use this clash to send a strong statement to their opponents in the league.

Sibisi has had a good start to life at Pirates, fitting in Riveiro’s team like a glove.

Together with his new teammates, the former Golden Arrows captain will be buoyed by their MTN8 win over Royal AM last weekend.

After booking a place in the final, they were drawn against Mamelodi Sundowns in the semifinal set for next month.
