Charles Zulu delighted to rejoin Zanaco

Ex-Cape Town City FC winger Charles Zulu hopes his return will see a revival of Zanaco’s fortunes.

Zulu rejoined the seven-time Zambian champions on Friday after a two-year foreign stint that took him to the South African PSL and Tanzania.

“I am very happy to be home and can’t wait to play again in the league. I missed it a lot but I still used to follow not only Zanaco but the entire league also,” Zulu said.

The 26-year-old left earlier Zanaco joined Cape Town City FC in the 2020/21 season where he made 13 league and one cup appearances.

Zulu then headed to Tanzania last year where he spent just a season with Azam.

In his absence, Zanaco finished second in 2020/2021 and 7th in the last campaign.

But Zanaco also grappled with an unsuccessful 2021/2022 CAF Confederation Cup group stage campaign in which they won one game and lost their other five matches.

Zanaco is also without a FAZ Super League title since 2016.

“I am back here to win trophies and participate in ABSA Cup, the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup,” Zulu said.

Meanwhile, Zulu made the Zanaco team for Sunday’s away league fixture at Nkana in Kitwe.

Zulu is also one of two ex-PSL players who have returned to Zanaco over the last twelve months.

He will be reunited at Zanaco with midfielder Salulani Phiri who returned to the Lusaka club last season after five years at Polokwane City.
