Malesela wants Royal AM to remain humble despite impressive start

Royal AM co-coach Dan Malesela wants his players to remain humbled despite the current form that has seen the club climb to the top of the DStv Premiership table.

Royal AM registered their fourth win of the season following a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Sekhukhune United at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday evening.

They also have the second highest number of goals (10) behind defending Champions Mamelodi Sundowns, who have scored 11.

Speaking during a post-match media conference, Malesela insists the club needs to collect as many points as possible.

“We need to get the points in our next match because after that it’s CAF Confederations Cup. We will probably have a break after that, so you need to focus on that break, having secured all these points. That would be very good for us,” said Malesela.

“Difficult first half, we conceded too many corners. Too many throw-ins and some of them were very unnecessary, but it was to be. With that said, we just scored a goal from nowhere and the second half. We were much better.

“Youthful side, you know we have players at home that are training. Maybe we will make changes. It will depend. There are players now sitting on the bench who didn’t play. Maybe we will give them a chance against Richards Bay, so we will try and rotate the players a little bit just to the out the fatigue,” he said.

“But it will all depend. Sometimes you want to take out players and rest them, but they don’t want to rest, so you give them a chance.”

After their DStv Premiership clash on Tuesday, the KZN side will travel to eSwatini for their encounter against Mbabane Highlanders.

After the two-legged CAF assignment against Highlanders, Royal AM will only be involved in domestic action on 4 October when they face SuperSport United.
