Pirates striker Eva Nga makes interesting Lorch admission

Orlando Pirates striker Bienvenu Eva Nga has explained why playing alongside Thembinkosi Lorch is a “great thing” for him, stating that he never imagined sharing a changing room with the Bafana Bafana international.

Eva Nga, who joined the Soweto giants in the off-season from Chippa United after an impressive showing in the DStv Premiership last season, admitted that he idolised Lorch.

The Cameroonian international caught the attention of Pirates in the 2021/21 campaign as he netted 10 goals for Chippa, with several teams such as Kaizer Chiefs expressing their interest in acquiring his services, but the Buccaneers eventually won the race to bring the big attacker on board.

Despite only scoring one goal in six games in the league for Pirates, the former Bidvest Wits star is optimistic about finding his goal-scoring form.

“I want to be respected as a player and make my story as a player. I hope I’m going to do it because I have confidence in myself. I know who I am, I have a lot of confidence, and I know everything will be fine. I just have to respect everyone at the club giving instructions,” Eva Nga told the media.

“We have quality players in the squad, I remember watching Lorch in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) scoring [against Egypt], I never thought I will play with him but now I’m here and it’s a great thing for me.”

The Houghton-based side has struggled for goals which saw them only score one goal per match in the last six outings in the league.

After beating Royal AM 2-1 to book a spot in the MTN8 semi-finals, the José Riveiro-coached team will be eager to keep the momentum going when they face Maritzburg United in a league clash at Harry Gwala Stadium on Sunday. Kickoff is at 18:00.
