Why Yanga’s Kambole will not feature in domestic league matches

Tanzania’s Young Africans have explained why former Kaizer Chiefs forward Lazarous Kambole will not feature in the domestic league until the second round.

Kambole joined Yanga during the off-season after parting company with Chiefs.

However, FARPost can confirm that the 27-year-old will only feature in the CAF Champions League, at least for now.

Here are the reasons:

Missed pre-season due to injury

Yanga president Eng. Hersi Said Ally revealed that the Zambian international missed the greater part of pre-season after sustaining an injury.

“When he joined us, he picked an injury and missed much of the pre-season. The medical team told us he would need three weeks out, which meant he didn’t feature in the pre-season friendlies,” Hersi told FARPost.

Long term plans

He added that knowing he is their player for the next two seasons, they felt there was no need to rush him.

“He’s our player for the next two seasons, and we felt there was no need to risk him by rushing him hence the decision not to register him for the Tanzania Premier League,” added Hersi.

However, Kambole will feature for the club in the Champions League.

Foreign quota

Registering an injured Kambole would have meant exceeding the club’s foreign quota.

Tanzania’s foreign players’ registration rule allows each club to register 12 players. Yanga have up to 14 foreign players this season.

Available for Champions League

The Tanzania champions kick off their CAF Champions League campaign on Saturday against Zalan of South Sudan in a preliminary round match.

Kambole is available for selection for that match after recovering from his injury recently.

“There will be another registration period in December, so we will be able to register Lazarous to play in the Tanzania Premier League,” added Hersi.
