17 yellow cards and 2 reds in 6 games: Sekhukhune’s Kaitano Tembo concerned

Sekhukhune United head coach Kaitano Tembo is concerned to see his players accumulate so many yellow and red cards at an early stage of the season.

Babina Noko have received 17 yellow cards and two red cards in just six matches into the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season.

Their start to the season has also not been ideal for a club that has signed some of the most experienced players in the country. They are currently second from the bottom after collecting only five out of a possible 18 points.

Tembo, speaking after Sekhukhune’s loss to Royal AM, admits that it has been tough for the club but they remain positive.

“We will try to freshen the team a little bit and bring in new faces. You saw another red card; it’s been tough for us in that regard but we just have to stay positive.

“Most definitely (we need to address), some of the yellow cards are unnecessary but today, most of the challenges were 50/50 and it was always on our side that we are getting booked and, on their side, there were some challenges but no booking so I don’t think my players were at fault today, to be honest.”

Tembo has also commented on Sekhukhune striker Victor Ohizu who has not been able to play for the club this season.

The Nigerian striker has missed all six opening matches of the season as he is still waiting for a work permit. The 25-year-old has been a key member of Sekhukhune for the past two seasons since joining from Jomo Cosmos.

“The management is handling that issue; I am not so sure how long it might take but the issue is with the home affairs. So, I am not so sure how far it is.”
