Charles Zulu admits he struggled in the PSL

Zambian winger Charles Zulu admits he struggled to adapt to the South African Premier Soccer League during his brief spell at Cape Town City FC.

Zulu joined Cape Town City FC from Zanaco in the 2019/2020 season, where he made 13 PSL appearances without a goal.

He left the PSL club end of the campaign and headed to Tanzania to sign for Azam FC, where he again spent a season before returning home to rejoin his childhood club Zanaco.

“I think in South Africa I didn’t do well, and I think everyone saw what happened there that I didn’t do well,” Zulu said.

“It took time for me to adapt. You know, every player is different, and I think it took time for me to fit into the PSL.”

Zulu has rejoined Zanaco on a two-year deal that was completed on September 2.

He jumped straight into business when he made Zanaco’s travelling party to Kitwe over the weekend, where they beat Nkana 2-1 on September 4.

Zulu came on in the 62nd minute, with the Lusaka club already leading 2-1.

He had a great chance to make it three-one in the 89th minute, but Nkana goalkeeper Mangani Banda saved his fine shot from the edge of the area.

“I am back to work on the mistakes that I have made, and I am not here to relax so that I can go back abroad,” Zulu said.

Zulu admitted that he also has a lot to do to earn back his Chipolopolo place that he lost due to his poor form in the PSL.

“Each and every player wants to play for the national team,” Zulu said.

“I want to work hard for me to be recalled to the national team.”
