Athletic Bilbao forward Inaki Williams set for Ghana debut
Athletic Bilbao forward Inaki Williams and four other naturalised Ghanaian players are set to make their debuts in September’s Pre-FIFA World Cup friendlies against Brazil and Nicaragua.
Black Stars coach Otto Addo unveiled a 29-man team for the two friendlies that will be played away in Europe at the end of September.
The call-ups include the 28-year-old ex-Spain junior international Inaki, who was born in the Basque region to Ghanaian parents.
Inaki currently holds the La Liga Record for the most consecutive appearances of 237 games.
The striker is part of half a dozen players from the diaspora who have decided to feature for Ghana at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 this November.
LAMPTEY TO ALSO PLAY FOR GHANA
Others in Addo’s team are defender’s Tariq Lamptey of Brighton and Hove Albion, Southampton’s Mohammed Salisu and Stephan Ambrosius of German 2.Bundesliga side Karlsruhe.
Winger Ransford-Yeboah Konigsdorffer of 2.Bundesliga sider Hamburg completes that list.
Ghana kicks off their European tour on September 23 against the record five-time World champions Brazil in the Normandy port city of Le Harve at Stade Oceane.
The Black Stars will then cross the border into Spain to play Nicaragua on September 27 at Lorca.
Ghana also has a third friendly on the cards scheduled for November against fellow World Cup finalists Switzerland.
That friendly will be played on November 17 in Abu Dhabi.
Ghana is in Group H at the FIFA World Cup, where they will play Uruguay, South Korea and 2016 European champions Portugal.
The Black Stars will kick off their Group H campaign on November 24 against Portugal.
Ghana is heading for their fourth FIFA World Cup since making their debut in 2006 in Germany, where they reached the last 16.
The Black Stars bettered that at the FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa with a quarterfinal finish.
