Why Onyango is eager to stay on…
Kenya international defender Joash Onyango is eager to stay at Simba following the departure of Serbian coach Zoran Manojlović.
Onyango had made his intentions to leave the club clear, citing fears the Serb would not give him a chance to play.
However, the nomadic coach, Manojlović, has since left the club and taken over Ittihad Alexandria of Egypt.
Simba, on the other hand, are now in search of a new coach to replace the well-travelled 60-year-old.
WHY ONYANGO WANTED TO LEAVE SIMBA
Onyango wanted to leave, thinking the coach would prefer Mohammed Ouattara as his first choice, along with Inonga Baka. Ouattara was signed recently after the arrival of Manojlović.
“It’s true that Onyango wanted to leave, but the club did not want to let him go. It was because he was not Zoran’s first choice in the first eleven. However, with Zoran’s departure, all that has changed,” the source told FARPost.
“In any case, the decision of the club was that they did not want to let Onyango go. They had told him to fight for a chance to play, so that remains the case.”
The club handed the Harambee star a new two-year contract a few months ago.
“Joash deserves to be on the starting list of Simba. He has a different trait from the rest of the defenders. He’s more solid than Outtarra and Inonga. His only issue is that he isn’t good with the ball but carries all other aspects of a good defender,” a Tanzania-based pundit, Salum Pelembo, explained.
Onyango recently refused to travel with the team to Sudan for friendly games against Ghana’s club Asante Kotoko and Sudan’s giant Al Hilal, insisting he wanted to know his fate.
Onyango joined Simba in 2020 from his hometown club Gor Mahia of Kenya, and has been a regular since then.
