Mathaithai bolster squad for upcoming season with 12 new faces

With the 2022/23 ABC Motsepe League season looming large, Mathaithai FC have confirmed the signings of 12 new players.

Last season, the Free State club finished in the fourth position in Stream A of the Free State ABC League with 22 points after 16 games, failing to qualify for the South African football third-tier national playoffs.

Following a very tough season, The Botshabelo-based outfit saw the need to start a bit early with the preparations so that when the season starts they are war ready for the uphill battle and made sure they reinforce their squad with young blood.

The side believes that the upcoming campaign will be a very demanding season physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Sebete Boys, as they are popularly known, are a very ambitious team with players who are capable enough to challenge for trophies as it has been proven by their good run in qualifying for the 2022 Nedbank Cup edition, where their journey in the competition succumbed to a 6-0 defeat in the Last 16 to Mamelodi Sundowns, who went on to win the cup.

To put a cherry on top, the club’s hard work is finally paying off as they are the nominees for the Free State Sports Awards 2022.

The awards will be held on Saturday, 23 September at President Hotel in Bloemfontein at 18:00.

Meanwhile, Mathaithai welcomed back striker Killer Mankha after a one-season agreement with their neighbours Pro Mates FC.
