Tinkler wary of their Champions League opponents Otoho d’Oyo

Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler admitted that playing Otoho d’Oyo of Cong in the CAF Champions League will be difficult.

The Capetonians are making their first appearance in the African elite competition. They finished second last season in the DStv Premeirship.

“We play at home against Otoho d’Oyo from Congo, getting footage of them wasn’t easy. We’ll be taking this game very seriously to set ourselves for the second leg in Congo,”Tinkler told the club’s media department.

TINKLER HIGHLIGHTS IMPORTANCE OF THE GAME

“Important for us at home, this is a two legged affair, we have to be positive, play on the front foot is key,  playing at intensity is important.

“The last game that they played it was a cup match that they played in, so it gives us a general idea of the players, line up and the type of formation.

“There is no guarantee because there is change obviously they had the change of coach after that cup final. They might come up with a different strategy on how they play, but in terms of the personnel we managed to study them the best way we can.”

Tinkler further stated how Champions League will benefit his charges.

“I think it’s fantastic opportunity for our players to truly measure themselves in the African continent in terms of what they can achieve and further their careers. The further we go in the competition, the better it is for the club and for the players themselves,” Tinkler concluded.

However, Tinkler will not be in the dugout as he doesn’t have CAF requirements. A coach in the Champions League should at least have a CAF Pro or a CAF A Licence.

Kickoff at Athlone Stadium is at 3pm.
