Al Ahly new coach sets Champions League winning target
Al Ahly new coach Marcel Koller has set himself the target of winning all available silverware, including the CAF Champions League trophy.
The Swiss coach spoke to Al Ahly media to open up on his new challenge of trying to revive the fortunes of the limping Egyptian football giant.
“Coaching Al Ahly is like a new challenge for me, and I want to win it. Working with a team like Al Ahly is a great opportunity for me,” he told the cIub’s website.
“I want to win the CAF Champions League title and all the local championships. My goal is to win everything with Al Ahly.”
CAN KOLLER HANDLE THE AL AHLY PRESSURE?
The former Austria coach said he was fully aware of the demands of coaching the Club of the Century.
“Winning trophies requires a lot of effort and work, and I am confident that the players will do everything possible to win,” Koller said.
The 61-year-old has since given a hint of the sort of football he expects the club to play with and without the ball.
“I always tell the players to show respect, put on a good performance, and focus. They must develop their passing styles and press quickly to recover the ball when they lose it.
“The team will accomplish this by putting their opponent under constant pressure,” he said.
Koller took charge of Al Ahly as they resumed pre-season training on Sunday at El Tetsh Stadium.
Meanwhile, Al Ahly are set to unveil Koller to the media today following his appointment to succeed Portuguese Ricardo Soares.
Al Ahly recruited Koller to replace Soares after he led Al Ahly to a disappointing third place finish on the Egyptian Premier League log table last season.
Soares had replaced South Africa Pitso Mosimane who resigned mid this year due to intense criticism from some Al Ahly legends despite that he led the team to two CAF Champions League titles in three attempts.
