Forward Percy Tau was unable to attend Al Ahly’s first pre-season training session under new Swiss coach Marcel Koller on Sunday.
The Egyptian club says Tau remains an injury doubt; hence, he could not join the rest of the team in training.
Al Ahly resumed pre-season training on Sunday under the new coach at El Tetsh Stadium.
The club has confirmed that the South African Tau was among the players who were conspicuously absent on Sunday.
INJURY CONCERN FOR TAU
“Moreover, Hussien El Shahat participated in the team’s full training normally after he recovered from his injury. While Mohamed Magdy Afsha, Mohamed Sherif, Ahmed Nabil Koka, and Percy Tau have continued performing their rehabilitation program on the sidelines of today’s training session,” the club’s website reads.
Tau has struggled to recover from injuries that limited his involvement in Al Ahly’s games for last season.
The injuries and with it, loss of form have made the former Mamelodi Sundowns star a subject of transfer speculation.
Tau has been linked with moves to Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs in South Africa amid reports that the Cairo-based club has put him on the transfer list.
French Ligue 2 side Le Harve were also thought to have come so mightily close to signing the Bafana Bafana player.
However, talks between Tau’s representatives and Al Ahly management are said to have broken down before the closure of the international transfer window.
Tau’s future became under more doubt after his former coach Pitso Mosimane resigned from Al Ahly mid this year.
Mosimane signed Tau from Brighton and Hove Albion where his stint was full of loan spells with clubs in Belgium.
Meanwhile, Al Ahly are set to unveil Koller to the media on Monday following his appointment to succeed Portuguese Ricardo Soares.
Al Ahly recruited Koller to replace Soares after he led the team to a disappointing third place finish on the Egyptian Premier League log table last season.
