Lebo Moloto reacts to his milestone in USL Championship

FC Tulsa midfielder Lebogang ‘Lebo’ Moloto has reacted to his milestone for making his 200th appearance in the USL Championship over the weekend as they suffered a 3-2 defeat to Hartford Athletic.

In April this year, the 32-year-old Limpopo-born made history when he amassed his 30th assist on Gabi Torres’ goal in the USL Championship when they got the better of NY Red Bulls 3-2.

As a result, Moloto became the eighth player in the league history to reach the 30/30 club and the first player in Tulsa’s colours to reach that milestone.

The ever-reliable midfield maestro is in his eighth year in the USL Championship.

He has represented South Africa at the Under-17 level, including being named to the squad for a friendly match against Zimbabwe Under-17 in June 2008 in preparation for the 2009 African U-17 Championship.

In 2007, South Africa reached the final of the 2007 COSAFA Youth Championship after Moloto scored the only goal of a 1–0 victory over Malawi Under-17 in the semi-finals.

MOLOTO REACTION…

“Humbled to reach such a milestone. Thankful to all the teams that gave me an opportunity to represent them,” tweeted Moloto on his official Twitter account.

“Glad to reach the milestone while representing an amazing organization such as @FCTulsa from the dusty streets of Chebeng Village, South Africa to the world!!”

Meanwhile, his side also took to the socials to congratulate their star player.

“The Moloto Magic is relentless,” said Tulsa in a statement.

“Big congrats to Lebo Moloto for making his 200th USL Championship regular season appearance this past Saturday.”

Moloto moved to the United States to play college soccer at Lindsey Wilson College in 2009. He was offered a scholarship after his coach at Lindsey Wilson saw him in an international youth tournament in Cape Town at age 16.

He went on to play for the Blue Raiders for four seasons, where he also won multiple individual and club honours including being named an NAIA All-American each season and winning the NAIA Most Outstanding Offensive Player award as a freshman.
