Why Timm is not entertaining Bafana hopes

The thought of representing Bafana Bafana hasn’t hit Orlando Pirates midfielder Miguel Timm, who insists his focus is helping the club return to its former glory.

Timm, who joined Pirates at the start of the season, thinks he hasn’t reached the highest level in his career.

He believes achieving great things with the Soweto giants is his main priority. He wants to win more trophies at the club, especially the league title. The team hasn’t won the league title in 10 years.

Timm has hit the ground running at Pirates after linking with the club during the transfer window from Marumo Gallants. The 30-year-old has made six starts out of a possible eight in the DStv Premiership.

“I don’t feel I have reached my best yet. It’s a transition. It takes time. I’m also trying to be patient with myself. It’s a feeling when I feel that the time is right to maybe think about Bafana I will, but this moment in time, no,” Timm told the media.

“I want to continue improving with Orlando Pirates. I think I’m a born winner. I’ve proved it with smaller clubs. I’ve reached three cup finals in my past four seasons.”

“It doesn’t feel any different here. Obviously, the expectation from the club and supporters are more. I take that as motivation to give the club more trophies which hasn’t happened that much in recent years.”

Timm further pinpointed his team’s problem that needed to be solved soon to yield better results.

“It’s a marathon; we are only seven [now eight after TS Galaxy fixture] games in. We know there has been a bit of inconsistency, but not for lack of trying and effort. Everybody knows we are creating a lot of chances, but we are not converting, which is up to us as players to keep pushing and try to correct,” Timm added.

Timm is expected to be in action when Pirates shift focus to the MTN8. They face defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns in the semifinal showdown on 1st October.
