Does Buthelezi deserve a Bafana Bafana call-up?

TS Galaxy head coach Sead Ramovic has tipped his in-form goalkeeper Melusi Buthelezi for a Bafana Bafana call-up.

Despite his below-par display against Orlando Pirates in the DStv Premiership mistake on Saturday at Orlando Stadium, Ramovic maintains that Buthelezi is one of the top goalies in South Africa right now.

Galaxy suffered a 2-0 defeat to Pirates, who scored two goals in the league for the first time since the start of the new season, with Buthelezi being the culprit.

Buthelezi gifted Pirates their second goal netted by Zakhele Lepasa as the keeper was caught off guard.

The Rockets had begun the campaign like a house on fire which saw them go on a five-game unbeaten run, keeping five clean sheets.

WHAT RAMOVIC THINKS OF BUTHELEZI

Buthelezi, who has been the preferred choice between the sticks for Galaxy, has done enough to perhaps get a national team call-up, according to Ramovic.

“I think we conceded two unluckily goals; the first goal, the ball hit Given [Msimango] on the hand and went it, so you cannot do anything about that,” Ramovic told the media.

“Also, the second goal, a really unlucky goal, and I will not say anything against Buthelezi. Everyone makes mistakes, and yes, he got an unlucky goal.

“He’s one of the best goalkeepers right now in South Africa, and I think he deserves to get a call-up from Bafana Bafana because he played really good.

“And if somebody wants to judge him with just one unlucky game, then they don’t understand anything about goalkeeping,” added the 43-year-old coach.

The 24-year-old goal-minder has been instrumental for the Mpumalanga-based side as he featured in all the opening seven games of the league.

In the 2021/22 season, the former Jomo Cosmos player made 13 appearances for the Tim-Sukazi-owned club in all competitions.

Ramovic and his charges will be looking to bounce back to winning ways when they face the Premiership newbies Richards Bay on the 18th of September at King Zwelithini Stadium.
