Dynamos struggling to step out of Callisto Pasuwa’s shadow

Zimbabwean giants Dynamos continue losing ground in their bid to end the six-year league title drought, with eight points now separating them from pacesetters FC Platinum.

Kalisto Pasuwa was the last coach to win the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title with Dynamos, following an unprecedented run, winning four consecutive titles from 2011 to 2014.

The 51-year-old has a Midas touch, having won a league title in each of the seven seasons he has coached at club level.

He won four in Zimbabwe with Dynamos and three in Malawi where he is currently in charge of Nyasa Big Bullets.

And since his departure from Dynamos in 2015, the Harare based club has been in melancholy mode.

Kalisto Pasuwa.

Simply put, they are a pale shadow of themselves as they struggle to build another dreaded machine like that of Pasuwa’s era.

They have nothing to show off in the last six years but current coach Tonderai Ndiraya insists that this season’s title is still within reach.

On Sunday they were held to a 1-1 draw by army-side Black Rhinos, a result that gave FC Platinum an eight point cushion heading into the last seven matches.

IT’s NOT OVER UNTIL THE FAT LADY SINGS

“The race is still on as there are still 21 points to play for. We will take each game as it comes. The focus now is on our next game against FC Platinum in the Chibuku Super Cup.

“We know that it has been long without a title but we are working on it. That’s why I said the race is still on. We believe and we will fight hard until the final match.

“Anything can happen in the next seven matches so we are remaining focused on the goal. As usual there is pressure but we hope to deliver so everyone has to remain steadfast and be confident that we will be winners,” Ndiraya said.

In truth, it’s hard to imagine FC Platinum surrendering the podium position considering their current form having gone for 14 matches unbeaten run, with 11 wins and three draws.

FC Platinum has collected 58 points so far and their goal difference, 31, is so healthy that it could easily count as an extra point in the event that Dynamos catch up.
