SA teenager secures Scottish move

South African teenage midfielder Aliyaah Allie has joined Scottish side, Glasgow City.

Glasgow City is a women’s football team based in Glasgow which competes in Scottish Women’s Premier League [SWPL] 1, the top division of women’s football in Scotland and also the higher of two levels of the SWPL.

The 18-year-old midfielder joins City from JVW FC Academy.

JVW boss Janine Van Wyk previously had stint with the Scottish side before she returned back to South Africa to play for JVW in the Hollywoodbets Super League.

The teenage sensation also represented South Africa’s U17 and U20 women’s national teams.

Allie will don jersey number 20 at her new club.

ALLIE COMMENTS ON JOINING CITY

“I’m excited to have signed my first pro-contract with Glasgow City. The team and staff have all been very welcoming and I’ve been enjoying every moment at training, on the pitch and off,” said Allie on signing her contract with City.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to continue to grow and develop my football further here at Glasgow City!”

Meanwhile, the club head coach Eileen Gleeson added: “We are delighted to welcome Aliyaah Allie to Glasgow City.

“She is a composed athletic young midfielder who shows excellent potential and who will no doubt excel in a professional environment.

“We are excited to provide her with this opportunity and feel she will develop quickly and add depth to the squad.”
