Tanzania coach Janza honours two DStv Prem stars with call-ups

Tanzania coach Honor Janza has called up PSL players Abdi Banda and David Uromi to the Taifa Stars’ squad for friendlies in Libya.

Tanzania’s Daily News has confirmed the selection of the Chippa United defender Banda alongside the Moroka Swallows midfielder Uromi.

Banda is a reliable player for Tanzania and the Port Elizabeth-based Chippa.

Banda recently hit headlines after his goal earned then Chippa coach Daine Klate a famous 1-0 win over Orlando Pirates.

The Zambian interim coach has also rung the changes, with notable absentee in the 23-member squad being Simba veteran striker John Bocco, among other players.

Janza has since said the door to the team remains wide open, as he seeks to build a strong squad ahead the forthcoming AFCON qualifiers.

“Yes, we have called new faces whom I have seen during my time here. Let me say that with this technical bench, we will open doors for new and old players,” he told the newspaper.

Janza is in temporary charge of the team following the release of Dane Kim Poulsen following a home 1-0 loss to rivals Uganda in the CHAN qualifiers.

The former Zambia’s Chipolopolo coach took over to guide the Taifa Stars in the second leg of the CHAN qualifiers in Uganda and lost 3-0 to the Cranes.

The former Napsa Stars Technical Director inherited the team when it had already lost to Uganda in the first-leg match.

Now, Tanzania will participate in the Libya mini-tournament at Benina Martys International Stadium in Benghazi from September 21 to 27.

Libya will open the tournament by face Uganda on September 21, the Cranes face Tanzania three days later at the same venue.

Libya will then wind up the tournament by taking on Tanzania on September 27.
