Why is Dumisani Zuma not starting games?

AmaZulu attacker Dumisani Zuma is yet to finish a competitive match for over a year now, and there have been concerns about his progress and future in the game.

Zuma has started just one game for Brandon Truter’s side this season, making three appearances off the bench.

The 27-year-old enjoyed a terrible spell at Kaizer Chiefs, where there were reported issues of ill-discipline. He joined AmaZulu ahead of the 2022/23 season and has since little game time so far.

However, Truter says Zuma, known as a ‘bad boy’ is not playing much due to tactical reasons, calming any worrying talks about the midfielder.

TRUTER EXPLAINS ZUMA SITUATION AT USUTHU

When he made the move to Durban from Naturena, Durban, there was a hope that he would start playing regularly, but that has not been the case so far.

But Truter insists that there is nothing wrong with Zuma. “Zuma performs very well in training, and he did well in the MTN8,” said the AmaZulu coach.

Zuma has been one of the most promising players for years, but still, he is yet to reach his full potential; and play full matches consistently for over a year now.

Despite being suspended two times at Naturena for discipline-related issues, the Maritzburg born has always been a player that would come from the bench or not finish the game.

“Zuma is quality. We all know that, and that is why he started against Chippa United,” added Truter.

“Him being substituted doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with him; it’s just technical changes that must happen; it has nothing to do with anything else.”

Usuthu is spoiled with good attacking players, the likes of Lehlohonolo Majoro, Gabadinho Mhango, Augustine Kwem, and Bonginkosi Ntuli.

Therefore, breaking into the KwaZulu-Natal side was always going to be a challenge for Zuma, especially as he didn’t feature more often for Amakhosi.
