Khune identifies SuperSport’s dangermen

Veteran Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has identified SuperSport United’s players who are likely to pose a threat to Amakhosi in their DStv Premiership clash on Saturday evening (20:00) at FNB Stadium in Soweto.

The Amakhosi captain skipper seemingly knows what to expect from SuperSport as they are coached by Gavin Hunt, who was at the Soweto giants two seasons ago.

Khune said Amakhosi know what to do to overcome SuperSport, banking on the knowledge they have about their former coach to collect maximum points at home.

Hunt had a stint with the Soweto giants during the 2020/21 season but was fired after an underwhelming campaign.

“SuperSport have been giving us problems whether we are playing home or away,” Khune told the media.

“But I think every season affords us with the opportunity of unleashing the new players that joined the system.

WHO CAN HURT AMAKHOSI FROM SUPERSPORT?

“So, it becomes a totally different game. If we can just guard against their pacey players on the sides, and we know their coach who was previously here with us.

The 35-year-old revealed the SuperSport players who have the potential to hurt Amakhosi.

Obviously, he [Hunt] believes in crosses more than anything else,” added Khune.

“So if we can manage those spaces on the sides to stop [Gamphani] Lungu and [Thapelo] Maseko from crossing, I think we can easily win against our hoodoo team.”

Khune, who has been out of the starting line-up for Chiefs in recent times looks to have reclaimed the number one spot in the goalkeeping department for Amakhosi.

The Bafana Bafana international was brought back to the match day squad in the MTN8 quarter-finals encounter against Stellenbosch at Danie Craven Stadium.

The shot-stopper has since been the preferred choice between the sticks, starting in two previous DStv Premiership matches for Chiefs.

With Arthur Zwane’s side struggling for consistent form since the start of the new season.

In the current season, the Naturena-based side is languishing 14th on the log after seven games, with two wins, two draws and three defeats
