Amakhosi new boy Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana reacts to his brace

Striker Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana has reacted to the brace he scored for Kaizer Chiefs in the 2-1 win over SuperSport United in a DStv Premiership match on Saturday evening.

The Burundian international made use of his start for the AmaKhosi to score in either half to give Chiefs the much-needed maximum points in the DStv Premiership match.

In reaction, he said: “I’m happy that I managed to score two goals. Thanks to my teammates, coach and his technical team.  I’m grateful. Great team spirit. Three points in the bag. Thanks to the supporters.”

Bimenyimana scored his first-ever Chiefs goal when he reacted the fastest to connect the ball into the net after meeting Kgaogelo Sekgota low cross in the 39th minute.

The goal cancelled out Grant Margerman’s 16th minute opener for SuperSport who had been on a good run of form of late.

The towering Chiefs forward completed his brace in the 54th minute when he converted from the penalty spot after Yusuf Maart was fouled in the danger zone.

THE TWO GOALS, CONFIDENCE BOOSTER FOR CALEB

Bimenyimana eventually limped off after what seemed like a calf injury and coach Zwane should be hoping that the injury is not something serious.

The Burundian was Zwane’s late addition to the squad after the coach seemed to have doubts on whether he was the sort of a centre-forward he was looking for.

However, a stuttering start to the DStv Premiership campaign, including the 4-0 loss to leaders and holders Mamelodi Sundowns saw Zwane make a U-turn to sign Bimenyimana.

The Burundian is so experienced having played for clubs in Rwanda and in Europe. He is also the leading scorer for Burundi national team.

The win eased the pressure on coach Arthur Zwane whose team had, going into Saturday’s match, last won 1-0 on August 20 2022 over Richards Bay.

AmaKhosi had only collected eight points from a maximum of 21 points to pile the pressure on Zwane who earned the head coach post following the exit of his former boss Stuart Baxter.
