Ex-Pirates, Sekhukhune striker Shonga returns home to Nkwazi FC
Zambian top flight club Nkwazi FC has stated that bringing ex-Orlando Pirates striker Justin Shonga back to the club is a good business decision.
Shonga has returned to the club that launched his international career after a rollercoaster five years abroad.
“Shonga has a huge amount to offer both on and off the field. Bringing him back to Nkwazi is the right decision for all concerned with the club,” Nkwazi said in a statement.
“What Nkwazi needs are goals and he knows how to get them.”
SHONGA, JOURNEYMAN…
Shonga left Nkwazi in 2017 to join Pirates just after helping Chipolopolo Zambia qualify for the 2018 African Nations Championships (CHAN).
The striker scored 3 goals in the 2018 CHAN qualifiers to help Chipolopolo qualify for the Morocco tournament.
Shonga spent three seasons at Pirates before moving to Cape Town City FC in January 2021. The hitman also had a stint at Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM).
He was later released by Cape Town City FC at the close of that season and moved to Egyptian club Ismaily.
During his club transition in July 2021, Shonga played for Chipolopolo at the COSAFA Cup in Nelson Mandela Bay where he was the teams’ tournament top scorer with 3 goals en route to Zambia making a group stage exit.
Shonga’s stay at Ismaily was also very brief and came to an end during the Christmas of 2021.
The Chipolopolo later popped up at South African club Sekhukhune United.
Shonga returns to Nkwazi who are currently winless and third from bottom with 1 point after the opening four games of the 2022/2023 FAZ Super League season.
