Makhanya cites backstabbing for coaching outside SA

Mbabane Highlanders co-coach Dumisani Makhanya has explained his decision to coach in Swaziland instead of the Premier Soccer League (PSL), citing backstabbing as one of the reasons.

The former Free State Stars coach is one of the football brains that many feel has a bright future in South African football.

But unfortunately, it has not been the case, and he has decided to move to Swaziland, seeking better opportunities.

Makhanya feels PSL has limited jobs and too many coaches that are always complaining while not wanting to go to other countries to taste themselves.

WHY MAKHANYA DOESN’T COACH IN THE PSL

“Let me be honest with you, there are limited jobs in South Africa,” Makhanya told the media after Highlanders’ 2-0 defeat to Royal AM in the CAF Confederations Cup in Durban.

“And we are too many chasing one job, so we must look elsewhere. South African coaches are not going anywhere; people are coming here and taking our jobs; when are we going and take their jobs? He asked.

The former University of Pretoria mentor further saysthat coaches complain a lot in South Africa and there is so much backstabbing.

“We always complain and say these people are plumbers; let us go and be plumbers somewhere too,” he added.

“These countries got money too, when are we going? Because we are chasing one job and end up backstabbing each other.

“Fighting each other, calling the club bosses, and badmouthing each other to club officials.

“I knew if I do well, I will be playing in this tournament, I always wanted to play in the competition.”

Mbabane Highlanders.

With Highlanders being knocked out by Royal AM in the first preliminary round of the Confed Cup, Makhanya’s focus, and goal is to ensure that his side return to the CAF competition next season.

“At Free State Stars, they were not serious about CAF; they even forced me to change the squad to accommodate league games,” he revealed.

“As a coach, if you not playing this competition, you are not evaluated enough, you no showing yourself and it very important for us to win the league and come back to this tournament.”
