Makhaula explains why AmaZulu need to down Sundowns ‘dark or blue’
AmaZulu captain Makhehleni Makhaula says facing reigning DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday will be like a test.
Makhaula says the tricky encounter away from home will help show how far the team is from challenging for the league title.
The Tshwane giants has been a dominant force in South African topflight in the past seasons. Sundowns have won six consecutive league titles with other big teams like Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs failing to put up a fight.
Makhaula believes that grinding some points against the champions will show that the club would had taken one step ahead in the right direction.
CAN AMAZULU BEAT SUNDOWNS?
“These big matches like Sundowns are the ones that gives you more confidence, not saying small teams don’t give us confidence,” Makhaula told the club’s media department.
“These big matches test how far are you in preparations for challenging for the league.
“I think it’s a good opportunity, all we need to do is to grind the results. I think we need to win this game dark or blue. “
Makhaula however, admits that downing Masandawana on their home ground will be a mountain to climb. He says the ball is in the players’ court to make sure something positive comes out.
“It’s really going to be a difficult match, we’ve been struggling to get points. We from a loss against Chippa United and they won, so their confidence is high
“We just need to prepare well and whatever the coach says, we must apply it on the matchday. It’s all about us [players] expressing ourselves and it’s all about confidence,” Makhaula added.
The KZN outfit have been struggling for points in recent matches. They are winless in three outings registering one draw and suffered two defeats.
Kickoff at Loftus Verfeld Stadium on Sunday is at 3pm.
