Sly Mosala parts company with Mbabane Highlanders

South African coach Selaotse ‘Sly’ Mosala has parted company with Eswatini giants Mbabane Highlanders.

The former Sekhukhune United assistant coach’s departure comes two days after Highlanders’ 2-0 loss to Royal AM in the CAF Confederation Cup.

His Highlanders were impressive in the first leg, dominating the tie but struggling to convert the several chances they created.

They lived to rue the chances they missed at home in the goalless draw as they went down in Durban.

“I have accomplished what I came here for, playing in a CAF competition. I wish we progressed to the next round. I have done my part. It is time for someone to take over and do his part,” he told FARPost when confirming his departure.

The South African said he had shown during his time with the team that he could deliver the goods.

He said Highlanders were the better team over the two legs, but lack of depth and match fitness proved decisive.

Mosala said that in the future, it was important for the domestic league to be in progress when such continental competitions kick off. Mosala said he would return home for a breather before considering other options.

“I have been away from home for nine months. It is time to go back home and look for new opportunities. I will sit down with my agent and look at the options.

“I can coach in the National First Division and even amateurs,” he told FARPost.

Highlanders pushed Royal Leopards to the wire last season, eventually missing out on winning the league title on the last day.

The club will possibly appoint his replacement this week, with the league set to start next weekend. Highlanders will be eager to topple Royal Leopards, who piped them to the title on the last day last season.
