Sundowns teenage sensation praises senior players for guidance

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies teenage sensation Lumka Qhekeka has commended her senior players for her good run in the Hollywoodbets Super League.

The youngster had benefited from coach Jerry Tshabalala’s squad rotation this campaign given Banyana Ba Style’s schedule overload.

Despite their CAF Women’s Champions League COSAFA Qualifiers disappointment, the red-hot Brazilians have had a fantastic season with some stellar performances in the domestic league.

As things stand, the Chloorkop side has collected 45 points after 15 wins from 16 outings. They have scored a league-high 72 goals and only conceded nine goals in the process.

Speaking with the club’s media about the opportunities she has gained thus far, the talented frontwoman said:

“I am very happy with the chances I have gotten this term. Having to play with several established internationals in the team has given me a new sense of belief.

“The older members of the squad as well as the coaching crew have been very supportive of my professional growth.

“I am hoping to get more game time so I can contribute to the overall success of the team. I also wish to get more goals because they win games.”

Qhekeka went on to state that the team has been working hard behind the scenes during the Super League mini-break due to Banyana Banyana’s international commitments.

“Coach Jerry has been very vocal about the need for us to gear up for the next few months. The break allowed us to get some much-needed rest, but we have been very busy with our training program in a bid to keep in shape,” she added.

“This is because we do not want to lose the momentum we have gained in the last few weeks. There is so much to play for this season, therefore, we cannot be complacent.”

Masandawana will face the University of the Western Cape (UWC) on Sunday, 18 September at Tuks Stadium.
