Ex-Baroka coach vows to help Marumo succeed

Former Baroka head coach Matsemela Thoka has outlined his vision for the Marumo Gallants DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) side.

As FARPost first reported, Matsemela has taken over at the Gallants DDC team for the 2022/23 season. This is after he parted ways with Baroka after being at the club for the past 15 years.

He was demoted from being senior head coach to coach of the Baroka DDC team at the beginning of the 2021/22 season.

But after the club’s relegation to the Motsepe Foundation Championship, Thoka together with another long-serving member of the team Kgoloko Thobejane were let go by the club.

THOKA SPEAKS

Speaking to FARPost after a 1-0 win against TS Galaxy at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, Thoka insists he holds no grudges and is now focused on the task at hand.

“I was given this opportunity to develop these young boys. We need to change the situation that they were in last season because they finished number 16,” he explained.

“So, they have invited me to come and change the situation and put the boys in a better position but I am not alone.

“I have guys that I am working with so we share a lot of ideas. But for me, I am just grateful for the opportunity from the Chairman (Abram Sello).

“Football is about moving from one team to another so I can’t say I have grudges with my previous team.

“I still love the team and I am still supporting them from a distance. I don’t have any grudges, it’s just that I have accepted the move because it’s football.

“I had been with them (Baroka) for a long time and now it’s time to move on,” he concluded.

Thoka takes over from Mpho Maleka who recently parted ways with Bahlabani Ba Ntwa.
