Ex-Baroka attacker Ngalande closes in on move to Malawi club

Former Baroka FC attacker Robin Ngalande is closing in on a move to Mighty Mukuru Wanderers back home in Malawi.

Wanderers spokesperson Clement Stambuli told Malawi’s Radio 2 FM on Wednesday that Ngalande had impressed coach Alex Ngwira during a two-week trial.

Stambuli said Ngalande might feature for Wanderers on Saturday when they face rivals Nyasa Big Bullets in Lilongwe.

WAITING FOR CLEARANCE

“He might be on the pitch this weekend. We are just waiting for the team in Ethiopia to play ball,” he said.

Stambuli was referring to a clearance which Ngalande is waiting for from his last club—Saint George FC in Ethiopia.

The former Bidvest Wits forward earlier told FARPost that he was looking for a move away from South Africa.

“My team is working on something, and I am waiting for them to communicate with me. We are looking at the next transfer window,” he told FARPost in May this year.

He last played for St George earlier this year but left after a few months due to some differences.

“I am sure that is what my team is working on. Once everything is ready, and both parties are happy, my team will advise me on my next destination. That is how it works with me,” he said.

FROM SUNDOWNS RESERVES TO ATLETICO MADRID

The Malawian international launched his professional career at Civo United around 2009.

He then signed for Mamelodi Sundowns Academy, who spotted him playing for Malawi under-17 team at the 2009 Africa Youth Championship and World Cup.

Sundowns Academy eventually sold Ngalande to Atletico Madrid’s youth team in 2011.

U-TURN BACK TO SOUTH AFRICA

He played for Atletico youth team until around 2012 when he signed for Wits.

Ngalande went on to have stints with Ajax Cape Town, Platinum Stars then Baroka.

The 29-year-old left Baroka in 2019 to sign for FC Zira in Azerbaijan where he stayed for two seasons.

Ngalande eventually returned to Africa to sign for Saint George.

His lack of game-time has cost him a place in Malawi’s Flames who are playing in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.

Ngalande is hoping to revive his career at six-time Malawi league champions Wanderers who among top clubs in Malawi alongside Bullets and Silver Strikers.
