Former Maritzburg United striker leaves Chicken Inn coach frustrated

Former Maritzburg United forward Clive Augusto is on the verge of being cut into the wilderness by Chicken Inn coach Joey Antipas.

This is due to Augusto’s failure to find the back of the net for the Zimbabwe Premier League side.

Augusto rejoined the Bulawayo side during the mid-season transfer window after being released by Harare based side Caps United allegedly leading a player’s industrial action over salary and bonus arrears.

For Caps, it was easy to part ways with the 28-year-old since he had just scored two goals in 15 matches.

But when Chicken Inn resigned him, they were hopeful he would replicate the 2019 goal-scoring form that saw him bang 14 goals in 17 matches.

It is that sizzling form that even triggered Maritzburg to pounce on the player for his services, midway through the 2019 Zimbabwean season.

He won the Golden Boot Award in 2019 although he was already in Marirzburg’s books.

However his current lowly form has left the former Amazulu coach, Antipas frustrated and considering to release him at the end of the season.

Clive Augusto’s future at Chicken Inn in doubt.

ANTIPAS, A WORRIED MAN

“I feel Augusto is struggling with his game. He has to step up his efforts if he wants to play here with us,” Antipas said as quoted by the Chronicle.

“Augusto is not giving us the value that we are expecting from him. He hasn’t shown any value at all.

“He has not really made an impact since he bounced back.”

Augusto spent two years in South Africa where he played for Maritzburg United and lower tier side Uthongathi.

Simply put, the speedy forward never lived up to his biling in the Dstv premiership.

And as Augusto is off form, Chicken Inn’s hope of winning their third Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title continues to get slimmer by each game.

As it stands they are third on the log table with 13 points separating leaders FC Platinum who have 58 points on gheif tally with seven games remaining.
