Lakay’s reasons for re-joining CT City

Cape Town City new signing Lyle Lakay has revealed why he decided to re-join the club on the last day of the transfer window.

He says he re-joined the club because it is an ambitious outfit and would like to play a huge part in the CAF Champions League.

Lakay’s return sees him back at the club four years after moving to Mamelodi Sundowns.

LAKAY’s WORDS

“Cape Town City a ambitious club, that’s one of the reasons why I was so keen to come here,” Lakay told the club media department.

“They are in the Champions League which is big, they say Champions League a big fish, I’m hoping to contribute to the success of the club.

“I’m happy to be back, it’s a great feeling to be back I’m excited. I’m looking forward to it and I’m looking forward to the rest of the season.”

Lakay played a huge part for Mamelodi Sundowns’ success last season winning a treble.

The left-back was consistent in his performances, this earned him to be crowned a 2021/22 Defender of the Season at the PSL Awards.

TINKLER ON LAKAY

Cape Town City manager Eric Tinkler is happy with the deal, he hopes Lakay can bring his experience and help the club achieve their goals this season.

“We are excited to have signed Lyle Lakay, a player with a lot of experience, a player that has been at the club before,” said the coach.

“In terms of how he plays suits us and I think he’s a fantastic replacement for Terrence Mashego who left us and joined Mamelodi Sundowns.

“I’m extremely happy that we managed to land a deal and that he came back to Cape Town City. I think his experience is going to pay a lot of dividends moving forward,” Tinkler added.

Lakay is expected to make his first appearance for the Citizens after international break. They will be on the road to face Golden Arrows on October 4th in a league encounter.
