AmaZulu prepare players for life after football
In an effort to ensure players won’t suffer after hanging up their boots, AmaZulu are taking steps to empower its stars.
In recent years, some South African footballers found the going tough after retiring as a result of a lack of financial literacy and ill-discipline to a certain degree.
AmaZulu are preparing its players for life after football through the club’s business college.
The aim is to assist the players in upskilling themselves with financial education.
Usuthu president Sandile Zungu addressed the players recently at the season launch, highlighting the importance of investing.
ZUNGU ON FINANCIAL EDUCTAION
He stressed the significance of thinking beyond football and taking care of their lives as professional players.
“Financial planning helps you to make proper decisions,” said Zungu back in August.
“You just need good a good attitude and discipline, understand where you want to be in five years,” added Zungu, who has taken it upon himself to look after AmaZulu players.
The KwaZulu-Natal side is using the FIFA international break to educate their players, having the second edition of the AmaZulu Business College (ABC) program.
The ABC was founded by the club’s CEO Sinenjabulo Zungu and Manqoba Zungu.
The programme began last year, with former Bafana Bafana captains Lucas Radebe and Mbulelo Mabizela being the first guests.
This year, they have invited another Bafana Legend, Mark Fish, who knows how to tackle life after football and how to also deal with fame and expectations.
AmaZulu are also looking at the issue of the mental health of athletes.
The initiative by Usuthu has been welcomed by the players, with Lehlonoholo Majoro appreciating the effort of the management to help them.
“I took a lot from this session; what stands out for me is planning and never fear your goals, regardless of how big they are,” said Majoro.
President Zungu has always been clear about his plans for the team.
He is using his experience in business to empower his players.
The ABC programme is expected to grow in the coming years, with a plan to involve other stakeholders in the team.
