Botswana’s Teenage Mpote confirms Zebras appointment

Mogomotsi ‘Teenage’ Mpote has all but confirmed his appointment as the new Botswana Zebras coach.

Mpote is in Johannesburg with the Zebras, who are set to take on Bafana Bafana in an international friendly clash at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday night (18:00).

“It has been confirmed. I have been with his team for quite some time now as you can remember, in 2019, I was with these same boys for the COSAFA finals.

“And some time back I was in Durban, playing COSAFA in the finals plate in South Africa. I think the executive developed trust, honesty and belief in me so that they entrusted me with the Zebras.

Mpote will be hoping to revive Botswana’s fortunes

“I will be leaving Orapa to Gaborone to concentrate on the national senior team, and I would say it is good, since 2012, in the set up with the Under 20, Under 23 to date, one would say I’m one of the longest serving coaches in the Botswana Football Association.”

Mpote reportedly signed a three year deal last week which will see him earn in the region of R130 000 per month.

The amount is less than half of what his predecessor Adel Amrouche pocketed during his two-year stint with the Zebras.
