Benni McCarthy’s prodigy on why he will succeed at Manchester United
Benni McCarthy’s AmaZulu prodigy Tshepang Moremi has shared why he believes his former coach will have an impact at Manchester United.
Moremi paid tribute to the Man United strikers’ coach, saying he gave him his PSL breakthrough at 19.
He was promoted to the senior team ahead of McCarthy’s first season in charge of AmaZulu.
“He was very important because he promoted me and gave him a chance in the PSL. He took a risk playing him in the CAF Champions League,” Moremi tells FARPost.
His development coach Motsamai Motsepe of Sharpeville Benfica, recalls how South Africa’s only Uefa Champions League winner, McCarthy, was patient with his prodigy.
“Despite the mistakes, he gave him chances. Benni believed in the boy.
He put the boy in the Champions League and competitive matches.
“The boy found him amazing because when you’re wrong, he would tell you. He was always looking forward to the next training session,” Motsepe explained.
Moremi added he felt lost when McCarthy left and watched with delight when Manchester United unveiled him.
He is convinced the young frontline at Manchester United will benefit immensely from his expertise.
Jadon Sancho, 22, Marshall Rashford, 24, Antony, 22, and Anthony Martial, 26, are some of the forward players McCarthy has the responsibility to sharpen.
“Any forward player will benefit from him. He did a lot for me, top things; he’s able to teach you movement, positioning yourself and finishing. I benefited a lot. That’s why I was heartbroken when he left. It’s because he understood me,” the talented winger said.
The 21-year-old is currently on loan at Motsepe Foundation side JDR and has scored twice in four games.
He is confident they will win promotion this season. “We’ve got a good team, and I think we’ll win the league.”
