Brilliant Khuzwayo explains how SA can be ‘brilliant’ in Beach Soccer

With the COSAFA Beach Soccer Championship 2022 underway in Durban, retired Bafana Bafana international Brilliant Khuzwayo has explained how Beach Soccer in South Africa can be improved.

Khuzwayo believes Beach Soccer doesn’t get the same attention as the Premier Soccer League and Hollywoodbets Super League regarding resources and support.

The country is currently hosting the COSAFA beach soccer in Durban from the 25th to the 1st of October.

SA have lost their two opening games against Seychelles 3-2 and African champions Senegal by a massive scoreline of 8-3.

The poor results indicate the below standards of the SA national team in Beach Soccer. They are back in action on Wednesday midday against Mozambique.

With concerns around the squad as there were only a few players available for selection and the lack of support from the mother body, Khuzwayo has urged those involved in the game to take it seriously, especially in the coastland regions.

HOW CAN WE IMPROVE?

Khuzwayo, one of the tournament’s ambassadors and a former professional player, feels the country should be doing more to support beach soccer.

“For South Africa to be better in beach soccer, we need to have regular games,” the ex-Chiefs goalie told FARPost.

“We do have beaches in KwaZulu Natal, from the North to South of the province.

“Then there’s Eastern Cape and Western Cape with beaches.

“We must do like other countries, take it seriously, have strong and competitive domestic games, and be able to help our national team.

“Watching the COSAFA Beach Soccer has made me realise that we can do more as a country.

“Produce more talent, compete against big nations, we can even match other continents,” added Khuzwayo.

South Africa currently has a Pro Beach Soccer League, launched by one of the most respected football administrators, Gordon Masondo, in 2018.

Even though the league has had its challenges, Khuzwayo says the Beach Soccer League must be supported.

“And with time, it will produce good players to compete at international level.

“I understand we now have a league, and hopefully, we can do more to support them,” he said.

“So that we can grow, but I know such things take time, and we need to be positive.”
