Downs thrash Thunderbirds, JVW stumble at home

The battle for the Hollywoodbets Super League title continued on Wednesday with Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies bouncing back more stronger while JVW suffered a setback as they aimed to overhaul Banyana Ba Style.

Sundowns Ladies thrashed Thunderbirds Ladies 4-0 in a crunch midweek battle after losing 1-0 in the Tshwane derby to TUT Ladies on Sunday.

The loss means Thunderbirds hasn’t tasted victory in their last four games.

Before the game, coach Jerry ‘Kappa’ Tshabalala had vowed that his players will do whatever it takes to respond in style following their weekend defeat to cross-town rivals.

WHAT ‘KAPPA’ SAID BEFORE THE MATCH…

“This will be another tough fixture that will require us to dig deep. It is a perfect opportunity for us to redeem ourselves after a very unfortunate result in the Tshwane Derby,” he told Downs’ media.

“We gained some valuable lessons against TUT Ladies, and we are hoping to get back to our groove on Wednesday.

“It’s been a very competitive season and the fight for the title is testament to that. Despite the dropped points against TUT, I am still confident that we have the capacity of retaining the title. As champions, every team is looking to make a statement against us, and we are well aware of the challenge.

“One thing we have done well is to respond when it matters this most and we are ready to do just that on Wednesday.”

As things stand, the Brazilians remain on top of the Super League table with 52 points, four points clear of TUT Ladies, who crashed JVW FC 4-1 on their own turf.

The Red Army Ladies ended JVW’s fine run of form. The Blue Diamonds had collected three wins and a draw in their previous games.
