Tshabalala on Sundowns’ second loss since Super League formation

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies head coach Jerry ‘Kappa’ Tshabalala had a shocking return to the Hollywoodbets Super League after a mini-break due to Banyana Banyana’s international commitments.

Banyana Ba Style took a step back in a 1-0 loss at home to cross-town rivals Tshwane University of Technology [TUT] over the weekend.

This was Downs’ second defeat in the league’s history since its formation, having lost their first back in May 2022 to the University of the Western Cape with a 2-0 scoreline.

Earlier this season, the African Queens ran out 5-1 winners, with goals from Lerato Kgasago, Rhoda Mulaudzi, Karabo Dhlamini, Gabonnelwe Kekana, and Nonhlanhla Mthandi.

However, the mentor reckons that they are still in a good position to defend their title despite the minor setback this past Sunday and was impressed with his charges’ performance on the day.

TSHABALALA COMMENTS…

“It is a game that we lost with pride because we gave everything on the pitch,” ‘Kappa’ told Sundowns’ media.

“We were dominant in possession; we attacked the key areas, but we suffered a lapse in concentration and that cost us the game. Although we lost, the performance of our troops was impressive.

“It was a game of huge significance considering that both teams are still in the hunt for the title.

“We need to bounce back from the minor setback and look forward to the next game. We are still in a position to defend our title and we are not going to rest until we achieve our main objective.”

Despite the loss to the Red Army Ladies, Masandawa remain top of the Super League table with 49 points, four points adrift of second-placed JVW FC. TUT are currently third also with 45 points.

Tshabalala will be gunning for maximum points when the Brazilians take on Thunderbirds Ladies on Wednesday, 28 September at Lucas Moripe Stadium, Attredgeville.

The kick-off is scheduled for 15:00 in the afternoon.
