AmaZulu president appointed as chancellor at Mangosuthu University
AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu has been elected as Chancellor at the Mangosuthu University of Technology.
The businessman purchased AmaZulu from Patrick Sokhela back in October 2020.
He then laid out a 12-year plan that would see the club become one of the best in the South African football top-flight.
Upon taking over the ownership of Usuthu at that time, he acquired the services of now Manchester United strikers coach Benni McCarthy as the club’s head coach.
He also brought in the likes of the of Bafana Bafana legend Siyabonga Nomvethe and Vasili Manousakis, who is now co-coach at rivals Richards Bay as part of achieving his 12-year-plan goal.
Zungu was born and bred in Umlazi Township, in the KwaZulu-Natal back in 1967.
According to the Black Business Council, Zungu completed his matric at Vukuzakhe High School in 1983 and accomplished his post-matric studies at Hilton College in 1984.
ZUNGU’s JOURNEY
The businessman did not stop there with his hard work.
He was honoured as one of the top 10 participants at the Old Mutual National Science Olympiad in 1983 as Zungu made the ferstwhile Kwa-Zulu regional finals.
And the following year he was in the 81st of the national category of the very same competition.
Zungu went on to further his studies at the University of Cape Town in 1988, obtaining a BSc (Mechanical Engineering) degree.
He topped that with a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the very same institution in 1995.
The AmaZulu boss was also once employed by Engen Refinery, National Sorghum Breweries (NSB), Richards Bay Minerals (RBM) and South African Breweries (SAB) between 1989 to 1994.
Top put a cherry on top, he obtained Program for Global Leadership certificate from one of the best institutions in the world, Harvard Business School in Boston, USA in the year 2000.
Zungu won several accolades in his career including the Outstanding Business Strategy award.
He is the Executive Chairman of Zungu Investments Company (Proprietary) Limited (Zico), a holding company of his business interests.
