Zanaco coach Kaindu: We wanted a win for Amunike

Zanaco coach Kelvin Kaindu is unhappy after his side failed to welcome Emmanuel Amunike with a win in Saturday’s Lusaka derby draw against Red Arrows.

Nigeria Super Eagles legend Amunike joined the seven-time Zambian champions late last week as a technical advisor.

Amunike’s debut saw Zanaco earn a last-gasp point after a 1-1 home draw against defending FAZ Super   League champions Arrows at Sunset Stadium in Lusaka.

“It is just unfortunate that we drew, but it could have been better for us to get a win for the coaches that have come to help the technical bench,” Kaindu said.

“A draw, of course, is half and better than nothing, but three points could have been better at the end of the day.”

The draw ended Zanaco’s two-match losing run and earned them their first points at home in their third game this season at their Sunset Stadium base.

Arrows took the lead in the 10th minute when Chipolopolo midfielder Saddam Phiri converted a penalty.

It took a second-half stoppage time equaliser from Abraham Siankombo to earn Zanaco the one point.

“Difficult game, but we thank God we managed to get a draw despite giving away two points,” Kaindu said.

“I think we looked more determined in the second half; we looked stronger and tried to play in the opponents’ half.

“And also getting a goal in added time, I think it is a plus for us.”

Zanaco is 12th after the draw on 7 points from six matches played.

Arrows are sixth on 5 points with a match in hand.

Meanwhile, Zanaco have another derby next weekend when they visit Nkwazi, who have a certain Justin Shonga in their ranks who returned home after five years away in South Africa and Egypt.
