La Masia gives coach two weeks to deliver

Motsepe Foundation Championship rookies MM Platinum, known as La Masia, have formally apologised to their supporters, who are not pleased with the start the club has had in their first season in the professional ranks.

La Masia, who were promoted alongside Magesi from the ABC Motsepe League, are languishing in 13th position on the log standings.

They have played five matches, winning just one with one draw and three defeats.

The four points out of a possible 15 also mean they are three points above the bottom of the log, Platinum City Rovers.

In a statement issued by club CEO Rashid Toffie on Monday, La Masia said they have identified their shortfalls and have made necessary remedies.

TOFFIE’s WORDS

“Management of NB La Masia Football Club unqualified to apologize to our fans for the poor performances and string of poor results that the team has recorded so far,” read the statement.

“We know that our Club means so much to you the fans and we share your pain and frustrations at seeing your team play below your expectations.

But we are duty-bound to put the Club’s long-term interests above all sense of personal sentiment, no matter how strong that might be,” the club said.

“It was never our expectation that the extraordinary feats of last season should be replicated this season. Indeed, winning in the NFD was our first and only target at the start of the campaign.

“But we are now faced with a fight to reach that objective and feel a change might be necessary to maximise the opportunity presented.

THE CLUB’S SHORTFALLS

“Admittedly, we have identified the shortfalls and have made the necessary remedies. In saying this, we have tasked the technical team with a two-week mandate and will give feedback to our loyal supporters on the way forward.

“It’s our job to change the mood of the supporters. There’s no doubt about that. We haven’t been to our level best thus far,” the club admitted.

“We want them to come back because the fans are the most important thing for the club and want to be that team that, whether we go home or away-but, particularly at home-that supporters will come and enjoy watching the team.

“And as management we promise to uphold our standards and you will see satisfactory changes that will bring desirable results.

“Please accept our most humble apology and come out and support your team this Friday.”

La Masia will host Venda Football Academy at Bidvest Stadium in a League match on Friday at 15:30.
