Senegal remain number one in Africa, Bafana move up

Reigning Africa Cup of Nations Champions Senegal remain top of Africa’s edition of the latest FIFA World rankings released on Thursday.

The Lions of Teranga are followed by Morocco at number two, Tunisia at three, Nigeria fourth and Algeria who complete the top five.

Egypt follows at sixth, followed by Cameroon, Mali, Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso at position 10.

South Africa are in position 12, and although they are no movement for them in terms of the CAF rankings, they move one place up in the World rankings from 68 to 67.

No African nation is in the top 10 ranked nations in the world, with eight European nations and two South American nations.

Somalia occupies the bottom place in Africa, followed by Eritrea, Seychelles and Djibouti.

Top 10 nations

Brazil remains the top-ranked team, followed by Belgium, Argentina, France, England, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Portugal and Denmark at number 10.

It is the fifth consecutive period that the A Selecao are ranked the best team in the World. The only change in the top 10 saw Italy leapfrog Spain from seventh to the sixth position.

The biggest movers were teams who failed to qualify for Qatar 2022, namely Scotland (40th, plus 5) and Azerbaijan (123rd, plus 5), both five places higher. Algeria (37th, plus 4), Georgia (78th, plus 4), Mauritania (103rd, plus 4) and Suriname (139th, plus 4), all of whom ascended four places.

Looking at the rankings of the other federations across the world:

Asia

Iran are number one, followed by Japan, Korean Republic, Australia and Qatar.

Concacaf

Mexico lead followed by the United States of America, Costa Rica, Canada and Panama.

Conmebol

Brazil is number one, followed by Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia and Peru.

Oceania

New Zealand are top of the rankings, followed by the Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, New Caledonia and Tahiti.

Uefa

Belgium occupy the first position, followed by France, England, Italy and Spain.
