Why Maduka believes Conco is an ‘admirable player’
Maritzburg United coach John Maduka has explained why he has no doubt that the club’s midfielder Siboniso Conco will reach new heights under his guidance, describing the player as ‘admirable’.
The 26-year-old midfielder joined the Team of Choice at the beginning of the 2022/23 season from rivals Lamontville Golden Arrows.
One of the reasons Conco opted to move from Arrows to Maritzburg is believed to be the lack of game time at his former club.
Since arriving at Maritzburg, the midfielder has featured in eight of the nine DStv Premiership games at the KwaZulu-Natal side this season.
However, he has yet to play an entire duration of a match, which is seemingly a concern for Maritzburg coach Maduka.
Maduka is optimistic that Conco will eventually become a regular in the team and be the best in the league because of his pace.
The coach mentioned that they are working on Conco’s match fitness so the player can be able to start and finish games.
WHAT MADUKA THINKS OF CONCO
“We are trying to work with him on that; it is not about him not being good enough to play 90 minutes,” Maduka told the media.
“We are working on him to reach that level. His pace is needed in the team. He is a talented player, very fast.
“But we must understand that he is still new at Maritzburg United, and we are still trying to get used to each other.
“We will work together to become the best; he is an admirable player that needs time,” added the Team of Choice mentor.
Maduka’s men are in the relegation zone in 15th place on the log standings after nine matches, suffering back-to-back defeats in their last league matches against Stellenbosch and SuperSport United.
Maritzburg’s next task is away to high-flying DStv Premiership debutants Richards Bay in the KZN Derby on the 15th of October, Saturday afternoon (15:30).
